What 320 kbps means

From a video page, the MP3 is encoded at 320 kbps and 44.1 kHz, the highest bitrate the MP3 format has; a link that already serves an MP3 is kept as it is, at its own bitrate. That number describes the file, not the sound in it: the MP3 is made from the audio the source serves, and no converter can add detail that audio never had. A video page's audio stream is usually AAC or Opus at well under 320 kbps. Encoding it at 320 kbps keeps the conversion loss as small as MP3 allows; it does not make it sound better than the source.

Not every link has audio that can be reached. Anything private, anything that needs a login, and anything under DRM stays out of reach, and so does a channel or profile page, which lists videos rather than being one; a search results page fails the same way. A direct link that ends in .mp3 or .wav is fetched as it is and converted only if you ask for a different format.
