What to expect
Split PDF breaks a document into single pages and gives them back as separate files, one per page, in a ZIP. The original is untouched, so you can keep the pages you need and ignore the rest.
Most of the reasons are about sending less than everything. One chapter out of a textbook for a study group. The signature page of a contract, without the twenty pages of terms attached to it. A single invoice from a statement covering the whole year. Sending the entire document when someone asked for one page is at best inconsiderate and at worst a disclosure you did not intend.
It also helps with an attachment limit: a 40 MB scanned report will not pass a 25 MB mail server, but its pages can be sent in smaller batches, with nothing degraded on the way.
Files are named by the physical page in the document, not whatever is printed in the footer: in a document with a cover and two pages of front matter, its "page 1" is page-4.pdf.
The extracted pages carry over exactly as they were: text stays selectable if it was selectable, scans stay images, and a page's layout is not reflowed or re-rendered. Bookmarks do not carry over, and links that pointed to other pages will no longer resolve, which is expected — the pages they referred to are not in that file.
