Will it sound as good as on BandLab?

It sounds exactly like BandLab’s own player, because it is made from the same stream. BandLab sends its songs as 128 kbps AAC. We write the MP3 at 320 kbps so the conversion itself costs nothing more, but no converter can put back what was left out before the song reached the player, and a site that promises better than the stream is only making the file bigger.

For listening, in the car or on headphones, that is plenty. If the song is yours and you want the untouched mix, export it from your project in BandLab’s Studio instead: that is the only place the original lives.

Which BandLab links work

A public post works: that is what Share gives you, and 21 of the 25 BandLab links sent to us in the last month were exactly that, every one of them converted. Long tracks are fine too; a 15-minute song took about half a minute in our test.

What does not: a Studio project link, which only opens for its owner, an invite link that starts with bandlab.com/join, effect presets, and posts that were deleted or made private. For a song on SoundCloud, YouTube or another site, use the URL to MP3 converter instead.

How to turn a BandLab song into an MP3

   Copy the song’s link

   On BandLab, open the post with the song, tap Share and choose Copy link. The address looks like bandlab.com/post/ followed by a long code.

   Paste it here

   Put the link in the box. Add a start and an end only if you want part of the song.

   Download the MP3

   Press convert and tap the download button when it appears. On an iPhone the file goes to the Files app, in Downloads.
