Instagram to MP4 turns a Reel or feed video into a file you actually hold: your own posts, or a video you have permission to keep. The bookmark icon only files a post away inside the app; paste the link here and you get the video itself.

What comes back is what Instagram is already serving: 1080×1920 for a Reel up to a minute and a half (its 1080p copy is VP9, which many players refuse, so it is converted to H.264 on the way — about a second per second of video), and the 720×1280 H.264 rendition for longer videos, ready in seconds. Either way the MP4 you receive is H.264 video with AAC audio, so it opens in any player, any editor and on any phone without a codec hunt.

The alternative most people try first is screen recording, and it is worth understanding why it is worse. A screen recording captures your display, not the source: you get the interface bars, whatever your screen brightness was doing, a frame rate tied to your phone rather than the video, and a second round of compression on top of Instagram's. A 15-second Reel recorded that way is routinely larger and visibly softer than the original file. Downloading skips all of it.

Carousels — the posts you swipe through — are handled one item at a time. Paste the post URL and the first video in the carousel is what comes back; a later slide cannot be picked by its link yet, because the link still points at the whole post.

Public accounts only, and this is a hard limit rather than a missing feature. A private profile serves nothing without a logged-in session that follows the account, and this tool never asks for your Instagram credentials — anything that does is asking for a password it has no business holding. Your own posts, public creators, and brand accounts all work; a private account you follow does not.

One thing worth being straight about: the audio on most Reels is licensed music, licensed to Instagram and the rights holder rather than to the person who posted the Reel. Downloading your own content, or something you have permission to keep, is uncontroversial. Re-uploading someone else's Reel with its soundtrack attached is the part that gets accounts struck, and no downloader changes that.

On a phone the file lands where downloads normally go — Files → Downloads on iPhone, the Downloads folder on Android — and from there it drops straight into CapCut, InShot, Premiere or anything else that reads MP4. On desktop it is an ordinary file in your downloads directory. If you only wanted the sound, use the Instagram to MP3 option instead; it skips the video track entirely and the file shrinks to a fraction of the size.
