Does the GIF have sound?

Can I make a GIF from a YouTube link with a timestamp?

Yes. A link like youtu.be/…?t=95 fills in the start as 1:35 when you paste it, and the GIF runs ten seconds from there. You can still change the time before converting.

How big will the GIF be?

Usually 3 to 6 MB for ten seconds of a landscape video, depending on how much moves in the picture: a talking head is smaller than a fast game clip. A vertical phone video is almost twice as tall at the same width, so expect two to three times that; setting an end a few seconds after the start keeps it small.

GIF or a short MP4?

Take the GIF when it has to behave like a picture: pasted into a document, dropped into a slide, used on a forum that accepts images but not video, or sent where it should play by itself and loop without anyone pressing play. Nothing on the other end needs a video player.

Video URL to GIF: which links work

A link to a single public video works: a YouTube watch, Shorts or youtu.be link, a TikTok or Instagram post, a Reddit video, or one of the other supported sites. A direct link to a video file is fetched as it is. Private posts, anything behind a login and a channel or profile page, which lists many videos rather than being one, cannot be turned into a GIF.
