YouTube to TXT gives you a video's transcript as plain text with the timestamps stripped out. This is the version you want when the goal is reading rather than playback — pulling a quote, searching a two-hour talk for the one part that mattered, or feeding a lecture into your notes.

Paste the video URL: you get English, or the video’s own language when it has no English. As with any transcript, auto-generated text is rough around proper nouns and technical terms, so check anything you plan to quote. If you need timing information for editing or captioning, take the SRT instead — this deliberately removes it.

How it works

How to download YouTube videos as Text

  1. Copy the YouTube link

    Open the YouTube video on its own page and tap Share → Copy link, so the link points at that one video rather than a feed or profile.

  2. Paste the URL into the converter

    Paste the link into the input box on this page. The converter automatically recognises YouTube URLs.

  3. Start the Text export

    Click Convert. Our cloud worker fetches it from YouTube and packages it as Text.

  4. Download the Text file

    When the export finishes you get a download link that works for anyone who has it until the file is deleted. The file is deleted from our servers automatically after 2 hours (longer for very large files or with a pass).

Not quite — it uses the video’s existing captions (human-written or YouTube auto-generated), which is instant and free. For a video with no captions at all, a true speech-to-text tool would be needed.
