WEBP is Google’s modern image format that supports both lossy and lossless compression plus animation and transparency. At identical visual quality WEBP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPG or PNG, which is why every major CDN now serves WEBP. Older email clients and a few legacy apps still cannot open it.
PNG is a lossless image format with full alpha transparency. It is the default for screenshots, logos, UI mockups, and anything with sharp edges or text. PNG files are much larger than JPG for the same photo content — use PNG for graphics and transparent overlays, JPG for photographs.
