A song on YouTube Music is a catalogue entry, not just a video, and it knows which album it belongs to and who is credited on it. Those details go into the MP3’s tags: title, artist, featured artists and album, plus the cover picture. In a phone’s music app, iTunes or a car stereo the song shows up under its album instead of under “Unknown artist”.

Two things are worth knowing. The year field is the year the track reached YouTube, which for an older album is later than its release. And the cover is the frame YouTube Music shows, often 16:9 rather than a square scan. If you are building a tidy library, fix those two by hand; everything else is already there.

Which YouTube Music links work

A song link works: music.youtube.com/watch?v= followed by the song’s code, as the Share button gives it. A link copied while the song plays inside a playlist or radio also works, and you get that one song.

An album, playlist or artist page stands for many songs, and this page does not split those into MP3s; open the songs and paste their links, or use the bulk tab on the home page for up to 20 at once.
